The new health system Kiwis are envisioning
New Zealanders have told us that we deserve a new system: one that truly focuses on health education and disease prevention, where all of us are empowered and enabled to proactively care for ourselves. This will be a system that guides and supports vibrant health for everybody (rather than profiting from disease) as its primary objective.
This new system will be founded on, and publicly accountable to, core values that meaningfully guide the care you receive, how our amazing health staff are treated, how the system operates and how it achieves its objectives. Your bodily autonomy and right to choose your own path of healing is fundamental and inviolable.
We recognise that true health arises when we are well in all aspects of our lives: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, and that our personal health is inseparably linked with that of the natural world. The new system therefore embraces holistic and nature-based approaches, alongside allopathic treatments, all of which are shown to be safe and effective. It also operates with consideration and respect for the natural environment that sustains us.
Unlike the current system, our new system will be based on a foundation of sound clinical evidence that is free from the influence of vested financial and other interests so that the care you receive is truly in your best interest.
And this is not just an idealistic pipedream - once health education and disease prevention are established as ‘just how we do things’ in New Zealand, in a few short years, the huge burden of chronic disease will be lifted from the health system, allowing resources to better flow where they are needed.
And a health system that is worthy of the name will be the future for our country.
